Understanding Health in Children with Complex Medical Needs

Research studies exploring how biological markers and family experiences can help us better understand the health of children with complex medical needs.

Our Values

Meaningful Research

Family-Centred Care
Lasting Impact

Listening to the people with lived experience to provide meaning and understanding to biological research.

Families are equal partners in our research. This research would not be possible without the collaboration of our family partners.

Turning research into action that aims to improve the quality of life and support for children with medical complexity and their families

Epigenetic Age as a Biomarker of Health Fragility in Children with Severe Neurological Impairment with Static Encephalopathy (SNI-SE)

This study aims to better understand why some children experience more medical challenges than others. We are exploring whether small changes in DNA, measured using a simple cheek swab, may help us learn more about patterns of health and resilience over time.

Caregiver Perspectives on Epigenetic Aging in Children with

Severe Neurological Impairment with Static Encephalopathy (SNI-

SE)

This study aims to understand how caregivers of children with severe neurological impairment think about epigenetic aging. We want to learn what this type of information might mean to families, what questions or concerns they may have, and how they would like it to be communicated.
